Mrs. April Bordeau

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW

Focus on the Family's Christian Counselors Network

For more than two decades, April Bordeau has focused on helping children and families overcome challenges in their lives. While April was earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Child Development from Purdue University she worked at a community center mentoring at-risk youth and as a Child Protective Services Intern at the Department of Child Services. In 1997, she earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan and began working as a clinical in-patient therapist in a Detroit psychiatric hospital helping suicidal youth who had histories of complex trauma and abuse. In 2001, April became the executive director of a shelter that served women and children whose lives were shattered by domestic violence. She has also served children at several orphanages in China and has provided pre/post-adoptive support to families. Throughout this time, April has continued to help clients, complete parenting assessments, and provide one-on-one counseling support for families in need. April is a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner, a Prepare-Enrich marriage facilitator and is trained in Theraplay.

Care to Change was formed with the vision of using God-given gifts and talents to serve those in need. We are a professional counseling community of licensed, experienced, highly trained counselors and therapists whose approach to helping people has been built upon a solid foundation of Biblical truth. We combine scripture, relevant experience, and proven techniques into one integrative approach of helping clients. Each of our professionals brings unique experiences and approaches to our community.

We acknowledge that God is the owner and sustainer of Care to Change, and that the families we are serving are His children, each made in the image of Christ, pre-planned for good works and a fruitful life of purpose. We rely on the Bible for guidance and direction on all matters and commit to adhering to Biblical principles when making all decisions. We interact with all business partners and clients professionally, respectfully, and courteously. We will protect the dignity of our clients and respect their decisions for care by following and imitating Christ’s example of compassion.
